Belany, James Cockburn. A Treatise on Falconry . Berwick-Upon-Tweed: for the author, 1841. First edition, octavo, lacking the frontispiece, bound in later half calf, edges toned, title pages edges browned, 8 1/2 x 5 1/4 in. The only published book by the notorious Belany who was tried for the poisoning murder of his 21 year-old wife Rachel Skelly in 1844. He was acquitted of the charge, but an angry mob in Berwick-Upon-Tweed burned his house to the ground when he returned to town. Durham University holds a letter from Belany, dated 7 October 1842, complaining about a delay in the production of frontispieces for this work, which plate is often found lacking.
