Tarasewicz's works have been described by Mariusz Hermansdorfer, director of the National Museum in Wroclaw as "deceptively simple"--they depict the natural landscape of Bialystok in Northeast Poland but also express 'the joy of experiencing and creating." (1) Hermansdorfer adds that he "conjures nature, arranging and conducting mysteries akin to the practices of shamans and effects the metamorphoses of things in order to grasp their essense." Tarasewicz attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, studying under Tadeusz Dominik (Polish, b. 1928), receiving his MFA in 1984. He has participated in several one-man and group exhibitions at the Nordenhacke Gallery in Stockholm, Galeria Foksal in Warsaw, and the 49th Venice International Biennale, amongst others. (1) Mariusz Hermansdorfer. Exhibition of Leon Tarasewicz. May 24 to October 6, 2007. Platan Gallery, The Polish Institute, Budapest. http://polinst.hu/en/node/4694
