Eric Sloane (American, 1905-1985) Sequence of a Thermal Thunderhead... from Cumulus to Cumulo-nimbus Both signed "Eric Sloane" and numbered within the image, both titled in ink on the backing board beneath the lower drawing. Drawing #1 signed u.r., sheet size 7 3/8 x 12 in. (18.8 x 30.5 cm); Drawing #2 signed l.l., sheet size 9 1/8 x 12 1/4 in. (23.2 x 31.2 cm). Both charcoal and pastel on gray paper, in a common frame. Condition: Subtle rippling, not examined out of frame. N.B. Eric Sloane is noted for his ability to paint clouds and skies and for his interest in meteorology. This pair of drawings is part of a series of four drawings illustrating the sequence of a thermal thunderhead cloud that appears in his book, For Spacious Skies, A Meteorological Sketchbook of American Weather , published by Thomas Y. Crowell, New York, in 1978.
