Bradford Washburn (American, 1910-2007) After The Storm, Climbers on the East Ridge of the Doldenhorn in the Swiss Alps, 1960, printed later. Signed "Bradford Washburn" in graphite on the verso l.r. Gelatin silver print, image size 17 5/8 x 22 1/8 in., unmatted, unframed. Condition: Unmounted, minor handling crimps. N.B. Bradford Washburn masterfully combined his love of mountaineering and aerial photography, travelling the world for eight decades to document dramatic landscapes ranging from Arizona's Grand Canyon to the Matterhorn in the Alps. He was one of America's foremost mountaineers in the first half of the 20th century, leading several first ascents and establishing new routes on many major Alaskan peaks (often with his wife, Barbara Washburn, a pioneer among female mountaineers). Washburn was also one of the founders of Boston's Museum of Science and served as director for over forty years.
