Paint-decorated Wooden Box, reportedly New England, 19th century, rectangular box with hinged lid and brass ball feet, with polychrome and gilt hand-painted decoration on a black ground, the top depicting the figure of Liberty in a horse-drawn chariot in the clouds, the front with a basket of fruit atop a shield flanked by scrolled foliage and flowers, one side with a dog with a basket, the other with a lamb in an oval reserve, the interior lined with maroon velvet, ht. 6 1/8, wd. 9 1/2, dp. 6 1/2 in.
