James Sanford Ellsworth (American, 1802/03-1874) Small Portrait of a Woman Wearing a Ruffled Bonnet, c. 1845. Unsigned. Watercolor on heavy paper watermarked "TWP 1842,"depicting a half-length profile portrait, highlighted with shaded gray cloud-like formations, 3 1/8 x 2 5/8 in., in a period rosewood veneer frame. Condition: Minor toning, glue residue at l.l. corner. Provenance: Lucy B. Mitchell collection, then by family descent.
