Samuel Rowell (Massachusetts/New Hampshire, 1815-1890) Profile Portrait Miniature of a Young Man, Joseph Ropes. Artist and sitter identified in penciled inscriptions on verso and on backing paper. Watercolor on paperboard heightened with gum arabic, 3 3/4 x 3 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Minor toning, minute paint losses on gum arabic application.
