Needlework Sampler, "Wrought by Betsey R. Slade of Somerset/aged 11 Years AD 1836," Massachusetts, worked in silk threads on a linen ground with four rows of alphabets above maker's inscriptions, and a scene with a Federal house with two chimneys, flanked by trees and with figures of a lady and gentleman, stylized flowers and birds in the foreground, enclosed in a geometric floral border, (toning, fading), sight size 15 3/4 x 16 3/4 in., in a blue-painted wood frame. Note: Betsy Read Slade was born September 22, 1825, in Somerset, Massachusetts, the daughter of Samuel and Peggy Slade.
