American School, Probably Maine, 19th Century Theorem of Fruit in Glass Bowl. Unsigned. Paint on velvet, 21 x 16 3/4 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Light toning, otherwise good. Provenance: Retains a paper label from the American Folk Art Gallery, New York, dated 1941, in which it is noted "Considered the finest example in this medium." Exhibitions: Downtown Gallery, New York, October, 1939; Eden Hill House, Newtown, Connecticut, 1952 and 1957; University of Minnesota, January, 1952; Museum of Early American Folk Art, April, 1964.
