Pieced Cotton Log Cabin Variant Quilt, America, c. 1880s, with thirty large blocks of pieced printed and solid color cotton, most of the blocks centered with a red square on point, and with red triangular corners forming the larger squares on point in the pattern, edged with red fabric, backed with natural cotton, outline stitch quilting, a piece of fabric basted on the corner is inscribed "Made by my Husband's Grandmother about 1880- (signed) Florence Burnham," (toning, fraying, fading), 94 x 78 in. Provenance: Purchased from Roger Bacon, August 1973. Exhibitions: Bicentennial Exhibition, Boston City Hall, 1976.
