Grenfell Polar Bear Hooked Rug, Grenfell Labrador Industries, Newfoundland and Labrador, early 20th century, the rectangular rug composed of bleached and dyed rayon, cotton, and silk strips hooked onto a burlap backing, depicting a polar bear standing on an ice flow, with icebergs and seagulls in the distance, in shades of brown, tan, gray, green, and blue, black, and tan border, woven maker's label affixed to the reverse, (three holes on top edge from applied hanging loops, toning, minor small stains), 40 x 26 3/4 in.
