Two-color Woven Wool and Cotton Coverlet, Harry Tyler, Butterville, Jefferson County, New York, 1856, two-piece, double weave coverlet woven with strawberry red wool yarn and natural cotton centered with a large foliate medallion in a foliate bodered square with floral sprays in the corners, bordered with urns and scrolled foliage and four trademark spreadwing eagle and stars corner blocks with woven inscription "UNITED WE STAND/1856/ANN. AGUSTA..GREEN/JEFFERSON CO. N.Y.," (toning, several scattered small losses), approx. 88 x 78 in.; together with an October 1965 issue of the Bulletin of the Jefferson County Historical Society with an article titled "The Story of the 'Tyler Coverlet,'" a biography of the notable weaver Harry Tyler by his granddaughter.
