Khorasan Hunting Scene Rug, East Persia, c. 1900, the central lobed medallion flanked at top and bottom by an urn with flowers, supported by an ivory two-headed dragon, all upon a maroon field displaying various wild animals, birds and blossoming trees in shades of blue, green, gold and orange, blue "turtle" main border, 5 ft. 10 in. x 3 ft. 9 in. Note: Although a later example the origins of the hunting scene depicted here can be traced back to the early 16th century, when medallion carpets began to replace the abstract patterns of the century before.
