Neoclassical Paris Porcelain Covered Sugar Bowl, c. 1780, indistinctly marked in gilt, possibly "Fleury a Paris," urn-form with conical finial, body with two mask-form handles, on circular foot, the persimmon ground with reserves painted en grisaille depicting a bird and dog fighting over a nest, with gilded accents, ht. 7 3/8 in. Provenance: A document signed by Schuyler Hamilton stating that the sugar bowl belonged to his great-great-grandfather Alexander Hamilton accompanies the lot. It also states that the sugar bowl was a gift to Hamilton from the Marquis de Lafayette when the latter returned to America after the end of the Revolutionary War.
