George III Sterling Silver Two-part Centerpiece, London, 1801-02, Joseph Preedy, maker, ovoid tureen with a laurel leaf border and two ring handles supported by scrolled acanthus mounts, on four acanthus-scrolled legs with ball feet, further raised on a stand with a lifted center similarly decorated with inset acanthus leaves and two applied medallions with engraved armorials framed within an applied laurel wreath, also raised on four acanthus-scrolled legs with ball feet, total ht. 7 5/8, lg. 17 1/2 in., approx. 141.1 troy oz. N.B. The maker's mark "I.J" has often been misattributed to a number of other silversmiths including Joseph Plimmer, and is not included in Arthur Grimwade's London Goldsmiths 1697-1837 Their Lives and Marks .
