The present work is one of a series of advertising illustrations created by Davis for Johnson & Johnson surgical dressings, which debuted in March 1949. A copy of Life magazine illustrating the present work, a photocopy of a Johnson & Johnson advertising memo describing the ad campaign, and a photocopy of a biography on Davis by Johnson & Johnson accompany the lot.
