Hendrik Willem Mesdag (Dutch, 1831-1915) The Harbor of Ijmuiden , c. 1884 Signed "HW Mesdag" l.r. Watercolor on paper, 18 1/16 x 23 1/4 in. (46.1 x 59.2 cm), framed. Condition: Sheet laid down onto paperboard, small abrasion (1/4 in.) or repaired tear in u.l. quadrant, scattered minor foxing, subtle glue stains to edges. N.B. This work has been reviewed by Jeroen Kapelle at the Netherlands Institute for Art History (RKD), who identified the location from a Mesdag sketchbook with annotated drawings of the harbor of Ijmuiden and with similar works dated June 1884.
