Whiting Sterling Silver Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club Trophy Bowl, New York, c. 1891, the circular bowl on a reticulated foot cast as scrolling waves and with club insignia and engraved inscription, "S.C.Y.C./ Annual Race/ June 20th 1891./ Won by/ Gloriana," dia. 9 1/2 in., approx. 23.4 troy oz. N.B. The Gloriana was a 46-foot cutter with a revolutionary design by Herreshoff. She won all eight races of her debut season in 1891. Her original owner was Edwin D. Morgan Jr., then Vice Commodore of the New York Yacht Club. The Gloriana helped to cement Herreshoff's reputation and was the first of a class that included Wasp, Navahoe, Vigilant, and Defender .
