Cherry Carved Tall Case Clock, Stephen Sibley, Great Barrington, Massachusetts, c. 1783, the hood with arched molded cornice above the engraved sheet brass dial inscribed "Step.n Sibley" in the arch with seconds hand and calendar aperture, above tombstone carved waist door with flanking reeded lambrequin corners, the base with applied shaped valance and molded bracket base, (refinished, restoration), ht. 91 1/2 in. including finial. Provenance: Note affixed to interior of door indicating the clock was owned by Jeremiah D. Kingsbury, a "prominant [sic] figure at Ft. Ticonderoga and throughout the Revolutionary War." In 1783, at the close of the Revolution, Colonial Jeremiah D. Kingsbury "roade from Oxford to Sutton and engaged the services of said Stephen Sibley, sone of my beloved friend, to make and deliver unto me, a tall cased clock of my choosing," taken from the diary of Col. Jeremiah D. Kingsbury.
