Reins, Bit, and Belt of General Francis S. Dodge, and a Commercial Haversack, c. mid to late 19th century, steel bit with US marked rosettes, leather and brass bridle with brass rosettes marked with FSD , an officer's sword belt, a embroidered sword hanger, and a leather and painted-cloth commercial officers haversack with the name Edwin Bailey painted inside the flap. Provenance: From the collection of the late Peter F. Frazier and M. Prudence Fleck. Note: Francis Dodge, from Danvers, Massachusetts, enlisted on October 9th, 1861 in Company F of the 23rd Massachusetts, promoted to 1st Lieutenant December 19th, 1863, and Captain on July 6th, 1865. After the war he was a Major in San Antonio, Texas, and retired as a General. Although the haversack is listed as belonging to Dodge, it more than likely belonged to 1st Lieutenant Edwin Bailey, Company K of the 8th Massachusetts Infantry, also from the North Shore area of Massachusetts.
