Identified Moore's Patent Revolver, c. 1861-63, serial number 2946, walnut grips, silver-plated engraved brass frame, steel seven-shot cylinder, steel barrel marked D. MOORE . PATENT . SEPT. 18. 1860 , backstrap engraved in cursive Capt. J.C. Maynard Co. A/26th Regt. C.V.M. by his/Company , barrel lg. 5, overall lg. 10 1/2 in. Note: Captain Jesse C. Maynard, from Salem, Connecticut, enlisted in Company A, 26th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry on September 13th, 1862, mustered into service November 10, 1862, and mustered out of the service on August 17th, 1863. During the assault on Port Hudson, Louisiana, he was wounded by a ball which passed through his breast. The regiment lost 107 men killed and wounded during the ill-fated assault. Jesse Maynard died on February 25th, 1892.
