Oil on canvas, 40 x 36 in., framed. Condition: Minor retouch to the background. Provenance: Sold to benefit Habitat for Humanity. N.B. Rita LaPlante Raffman (1919-2012) was a gifted concert pianist and a prominent citizen of Worcester. She was a member of the piano faculty of the Indiana University School of Music and later a piano instructor at Clark University in Worcester, where her husband, jazz pianist and composer Relly Raffman, was the founder and first chairman of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. The portrait by Marguerite Pearson is said to commemorate Rita Raffman's performance given during an audience with the Pope.
