James Wolf (American, b. 1949) The Jamaicans Who Were Lost at Sea . Signed and dated "James Wolf/1988" l.r. Acrylic on canvas, 40 x 60 in., unframed. Condition: Minor surface grime and dust. N.B. The painting at hand depicts the crew of a Jamaican fishing boat that was blown out to sea in a storm in 1979. After two weeks of starving and drinking brackish water on the disabled boat, and suffering from shock, the sailors were rescued by an American yachtman who brought them to Roatan, an island off Honduras, where the artist met and sketched them.
