Needlework Sampler, Bathsheba Nelson, Plymouth, Massachusetts, 1804, worked in silk threads on a linen ground, top border of birds and flowers and grass, above an alphabet, a register of birds and flowers, and the maker's name and date below, all above a lower register of a basket of flowers flanked by birds, a flowering vine, and four-legged creatures, 13 x 10 1/4 in. , with off-white mat and cloth-covered backing. Note: According to a note affixed to an old frame's backing paper, Bathsheba Nelson was born in Plymouth in 1792, and married Lemuel Bradford in 1812. She died in 1861 and is buried on Burial Hill in Plymouth.
