Bronze Posnet, Mid-Atlantic states, 18th century, the vessel on three feet, the handle marked "M. Morrison NJ," (imperfections), lg. 17 1/4, dia. 7 3/4 in. Regarding the probability of an American attribution, Mr. Roth points out in his notes that the "treatment of the handle is closer in appearance to American forms [than to English forms], and the braces behind the legs have not appeared on English posnets. The name Morrison appears on Philadelphia-made copper as well as a copper tea kettle marked New York owned by the author. In addition to [this] example found in the United States, one other has been found in England, but it was shipped to the collector from New York City." Provenance: The Howard Roth Collection.
