Pair of Cast Iron Figural Andirons, America, late 18th/early 19th century, the figures of a man with a tricorn hat, (imperfections), ht. 12 3/4, lg. 12, wd. 8 1/2 in. Note: Howard Roth: "Unique cast iron andirons which resemble the single andiron shown on a 1767 Paul Revere engraved copper plate used to produce 150 trade cards for iron merchant Joseph Webb of Boston. Webb and Revere were friends, fellow grand masons of the Freemasons and were both business customers and providers to each other. Freemasons were encouraged to extend their relationships to social and business matters and they did business with each other when given the opportunity. Revere was an iron founder by 1788 and undoubtedly cast andirons but one can only speculate whether these andirons were cast from his free hand engraving or were copies of andirons that existed in the shop of Joseph Webb in 1767."
