Southern Cheyenne Beaded Hide Pipe Bag, c. 1870, beaded with a classic multicolored bar design, the long tabs and quill-wrapped fringe with tin cone and red trade cloth danglers, (minor damage to fringe), lg. 20 in. Provenance: Thought to have been collected by Major General William August Kobbe (1840-1931), Kobbe had a long distinguished career in the military, including being "appointed 2nd Lieutenant in the 19th Infantry (regular army) in 1866, serving on the frontier in New Mexico and Kansas during Indian hostilities."
