Rare Wasco-Wishram Beaded Hide Man's Shirt and Trousers, c. third quarter 19th century, beaded with both loom and single-lane techniques with thread and sinew, the panels with bold geometric designs and the bibs probably representing the mythical Tsalagle, "the one who watches," a prominent rock art feature along the Columbia River near the Wishram area; both shirt and trousers trimmed with red stroud and both with extensive fringe, the shirt with traces of red pigment at the neck, (some restoration to red trade cloth), lot includes the book From Oxcart to Airplane , a biography of George H. Himes, 1939, shirt lg. 28 1/2, trousers lg. 37 in. Provenance: Collected by George H. Himes, founder of the Oregon Historical Society, late 19th century.
