Large Cloisonne Gu Vase, China, Ming dynasty, three sections ,with a trumpet mouth, a swollen square waist, and a splayed square foot, each section with vertical bamboo-notched flanges along the edges and the center, the flared mouth decorated with lotus scrolls on a turquoise ground on the upper side and a pair of phoenixes facing each other along with archaic animal motifs on each of four undersides, the waist in the middle with a taotie mask on each side, and the foot with a pair of mythical birds, ht. 22 7/8 in. Provenance: Sold to benefit the acquisition fund of the Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire.
