Berks County, Pennsylvania painted dower chest, 18th c. , the lid decorated with a compass, stars, and circles, centering on a spray of flowers, above a case with the ends decorated with stylized pots of flowers with a sprig border and heart corners, the front inscribed Henrich Rausch, Anno 1781 above concentric circles framing the initials A.H. , flanked by pots of flowers and heart corners, all on a blue ground, above two blue stippled drawers and resting on straight bracket feet, 30" h., 49" w. It is interesting to note that there are other examples of this artist which also have the initials "AH" in the center. These initials could be of the artist.
