Martha Holmes (American, 1923-2006) Jackson Pollock Working in His Barn Studio, Springs, New York, 1949, printed 1999. Signed "Martha Holmes" in ink below the image l.r., titled and inscribed with Time, Inc. copyright in graphite on the verso. Gelatin silver print, image size 14 3/4 x 14 1/8 in. (37.5 x 35.8 cm), framed. Condition: Good, rippling to sheet. N.B. Holmes's photograph of Jackson Pollock demonstrating his famous "drip" technique was published in the August 8, 1949, issue of LIFE magazine. In 1999 the Postal Service drew on the portrait for a stamp, asking the artist who copied it to leave out the ubiquitous cigarette dangling from Pollock's mouth.
