Bronze Mirror in a Lacquer Box, China, possibly Han dynasty, round mirror with sixteen half-circles, figures, mythical animals, sixteen four-character seals in a square, a band of archaic-style motifs, a band of scrolls, and a band of triangular notches, the domed knob with a hole for a string, the lacquered box decorated with facing dragons both on the cover and sides in gold against a red ground, the top with a fish with a gate named "Yu Men," illustrating a story about a fish becoming a dragon passing the Yumen region, mirror dia. 6, box dia. 7, ht. 2 3/8 in. Provenance: From the estate of Kai Suhr, who supplied Chiang-Kai-shek's army in China between the years of 1938-1939.
