Art Nouveau Carved Mahogany Part Gold Painted Allegorical Panel, early 20th century, rectangular, deeply carved with the face of a smiling woman in floral headdress, flanked on either sides by oak branches bearing acorns, on gilt ground, wd. 27 1/4, ht. 11 1/2 in. Note: Bearing paper label for the Rochester (New York) Art Club Memorial Art Gallery Annual Exhibit of 1924, giving the artist's name of Frank Dostalek. By repute, Dostalek was Czechoslovakian born, trained in Vienna. and employed by the furniture manufacturers Hayden Company, in Rochester, New York. The panel represents the motto "The beauty of love expressed in human kindness is the seed of strength."
