Wedgwood & Bentley Oval Portrait Medallion of Edward Bourne, England, c. 1778, Wedgwood's bricklayer at Etruria, beveled edge to a laminated body of slate blue and white jaspers and with dark blue dip ground, applied white portrait in relief modeled by Hackwood, impressed title below bust, and marks on the reverse, 3 7/8 x 5 in. Note: On November 21, 1778, Wedgwood wrote to Bentley in referring to this portrait, "old Bournes is the man himself with every wrinkle crink & cranny in the whole visage."
