Italian School, Late 19th Century Portrait of the Bark Aberdeen at Naples , c. 1878. Unsigned. Gouache on paper, the vessel under full sail identified on a pennant and at stern, sailing right to left, the city and Mount Vesuvius off the starboard bow, 15 1/2 x 24 1/4 in. (sight), in a molded gilt-gesso frame. Condition: Minor toning, minor water damage, not examined out of frame. Note: A typed note affixed to the backing includes information about the vessel. She was built in Searsport, Maine, in 1856, and was stranded off Long Branch, New Jersey, in 1885.
