Carlo Ernesto Liverati (Italian, 1805-1844) Portrait of Captain Henry C. Lynch of the 48th Madras Native Infantry. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, c. 1838, the officer in uniform seated, his arm resting on an open book, holding a sword, the subject, artist, and date identified on label affixed to the stretcher, the artist further identified in a later pencil inscription, 36 x 30 in., in a giltwood frame. Condition: Relined, significant retouch. Provenance: A label affixed to upper corner of stretcher indicates that this painting was in the Military Collection of Anne S.K. Brown.
