Alexander Calder (American, 1898-1976) Red Circus Horse Signed and dated "Calder 71" l. r., inscribed "...Perls..." in pencil on the reverse, identified on a label from Perls Gallery, New York, affixed to the backing. Gouache on Canson & Montgolfier wove paper, sheet size 29 7/16 x 43 3/16 in. (74.8 x 109.7 cm), framed. Condition: Subtle rippling, small handling crease to center, cloth tape hinged to backing mat. Provenance: Perls Gallery to private collection, Geneva, Switzerland, 1974; to Perls Gallery, then to current owner c. 1985. N.B.
