Jan van Lintelo (Dutch, c. 1572-1632) Two Figures Embracing Signed "I.V. Linte..." l.r., also inscribed "H...H" and "...38" l.r., with a collector's stamp "S" l.r.; numbered "66" in ink and inscribed "Jan van Linten/ecole hollandiase vers 1620" in pencil on the reverse. Brown ink and blue/gray wash on watermarked laid paper, 9 1/2 x 6 3/4 in. (24.3 x 17.0 cm), framed. Condition: Foxing, toning, paper has been trimmed, eclipsing the final letters of the signature, tape-hinged in two places at top of reverse. N.B. The work may have been created as a drawing exercise. The collector's stamp refers to Anton Schmid, born in Oderfurt, Czechoslovakia, and trained in Vienna as an architect Lugt, 2330b). Beginning in 1935 Schmid collected drawings and watercolors from the 15th century to the end of the 19th century, which he bought in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
