Louis XVI-style Gilt-bronze Fruitwood Marquetry Table, France, 20th century, in the manner of Jean-Henri Riesener, mahogany and fruitwood inlay, the top with the mythological figures of Urania and Calliope and allegorical scenes with putti depicting astronomy and the arts, surmounting a frieze with single spring-mechanism drawer supported flanked by acanthine-foliate mounts over tapered legs with anthemion-decorated feet, ht. 30 1/2, wd. 42 5/8, dp. 23 3/4 in. N.B. Designed after the "Table des Muses" commissioned by Pierre-Elisabeth de Fontanieu and made by Jean-Henri Riesener for King Louis XVI. The original is now in The Petit Trianon, Chateau de Versailles, and was widely copied by Louis-Auguste-Alfred Beurdeley, Dasson, Linke, and others throughout the 19th century.
