After Giovanni Battista Salvi, called il Sassoferrato (Italian, 1609-1685) The Madonna in Sorrow Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 29 x 22 3/4 in. (74.0 x 58.0 cm), in a carved and gilded frame. Condition: Lined, old repair l.c., retouch, varnish inconsistencies, craquelure. N.B. The original painting is in the collection of the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence, Italy. The title of the work suggests that the Madonna is reflecting on the future of her child, however the painting is sometimes referred to as Madonna at Prayer .
