Attributed to Sébastien Leclerc (French, 1637-1714) Four Framed Drawings: Combat de Leuze , Cassel , La Bataille de Saint Godard , and Deffaite des Turcs près de Vienne Unsigned, titled in pencil or ink within the compositions, attributed in inscriptions on the frame backing papers. Ink and wash on laid paper, sizes to 3 1/4 x 6 in. (8.0 x 14.7 cm), framed. Condition: Drawings trimmed to ink borders, floated within the mats, scattered subtle stains and foxing, possible repairs or reinforcement of the paper, not examined out of frames. N.B. Sébastien Leclerc was known as an engraver. The inscriptions on the frame backing papers suggest that the drawings of Cassel and Leuze are studies for a series of etchings entitled Les Petits Conquêtes du Roi , 1702. Each of the four drawings is matted with sketches of heraldic elements and embellishments that were likely intended for printing above or below the image.
