Frank Durgan Striking New Hampshire Mirror Clock, Andover, c. 1830, mahogany veneered case with flaring cornice, full-length door with beveled frames surrounding the stenciled and reverse-painted tablet, painted Roman numeral iron dial signed F. Durgan/Andover N.H. , lower looking glass, eight-day time and count wheel strike on a wire gong with half-moon cutout plates, outboard tin fly, offset pendulum stud, and unusual count wheel of graduated distances of holes on the great wheel, all powered by two cast iron weights and regulated by a two-part pendulum, ht. 32 in. Note: Charles Parsons, New Hampshire Clocks and Clockmakers , p. 217, shows this rare variant of a striking New Hampshire movement. He states that the illustrated movement, identical to the present example, was made by Clark Durgan and only two have been found. The relationship between Clark and Frank is presently unknown.
