Dogs Playing Poker refers collectively to a series of sixteen oil paintings by Coolidge, commissioned in 1903 by Brown & Bigelow to advertise cigars. These images were reproduced as posters, calendars, and prints, sometimes as part of promotional giveaways. The version at hand of Poker Sympathy deviates from the original with one less dog around the table and a different background.
