Two Wrought Iron/Steel Whaling Harpoons, New England, 19th century, an arrowhead harpoon stamped on the head "HN. DEAN" and a togglehead harpoon with owner's initials "SPR" engraved on the head, lg. to 34 in. Provenance: Sold to benefit the preservation of the collections of the Danvers Historical Society. Note: The arrowhead harpoon was made by Henry N. Dean (1815-1908). Dean was a blacksmith and maker of whaling tools active in New Bedford, Massachusetts, 1839-97.
