Export Porcelain "Glorious Victory at Culloden" Mug, China, c. 1750, the mug with bulbous body and flared rim with large circular medallion depicting the Duke of Cumberland wearing a tricorn hat and red coat on a crosshatched gray background, surrounded with lettering "Apl 16th 1746 In remembrance of the Glorious Victory at Culloden," and scalloped border, flanked by large floral sprays, loop handle with molded terminal, ht. 6 1/4 in. Note: The battle at Culloden, in the Scottish highlands, was the final and decisive victory by English forces led by William Augustus, the Duke of Cumberland, over the Jacobite uprising of 1745.
