Export Porcelain "THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE" Punch Bowl, China, c. 1920-38 the interior rim with floral garland centering a floral arrangement at interior center, the exterior polychrome-decorated with scenes of the Founding Fathers and Declaration of Independence signers gathered at tables, loosely based on the John Trumbull painting from c. 1817 showing the presentation of the document's first draft to Congress, the figures surmounted by a Union shield and spreadwing eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows, his beak holding a banner reading "THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE," and thirteen blue stars above, ht. 4 1/2, dia. 11 1/2 in.
