14kt Gold and Double Seashell "Margareta Cea" Ring, Marguerite Stix, c. 1960s, with two seashells, size 5 1/2, signed "Stix for Vogt." Note: Pictured in The Art of Marguerite Stix , plate 168. A similar ring is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Born in Vienna, Marguerite Stix came to the United States in 1941 and became a well-known sculptor. Along with R. Tucker Abbott, Marguerite and her husband, Hugh, wrote The Shell: Five Hundred Million Years of Inspired Design, which showed several pieces from the Stix shell collection. Stix used shells as gemstones in her jewelry, and said: "Here was my chance to combine this perfect sculpture with just the right combinations of responding colors, to compose jewels that bring out the personality of the wearer."
