Needlework Sampler, Lydia Ashley, Massachusetts, September 1798, worked in silk threads in shades of pink, green, yellow, and burnt umber, on a linen ground, (toned, fading), 10 x 7 in. , in a modern frame. Provenance: Skinner auction, October 31, 1992, Lot 152. Note: Genealogical records show a Lydia Ashley born to John Ashley of Plymouth County, Massachusetts, in 1788. She may have worked this sampler.
