Engraved Powder Horn Identified to Nathaniel Bartlett, c. 1755, horn engraved with a lion with a crown, horse, animals, two soldiers in a sword fight, foliate designs, and marked NATHANIEL BARTLETT/HIS HORN/MADE BY HIM/IN/ALBANY/OCTOBER/THE 16 1755 , overall lg. 13 in. Provenance: Sold at the Guthman sale, part two, on October 12, 2006, page 24 of the Northeast Auctions catalog. Note: According to William Guthman's notes, he was a Captain from Hadley, Massachusetts during the 1755 expedition to Crown Point, New York. A search of records at the Massachusetts State Archives shows he was more than likely from Plymouth, Massachusetts, and is shown as being in Albany during 1755.
