Horace Talmage Day (American, 1909-1984) Ware-Sibley-Clark House, Augusta, Georgia Signed and dated "Horace Day 37" l. r. Oil on canvas, 20 x 24 in. (50.8 x 60.9 cm), framed. Condition: Minor surface grime, canvas loose; frame losses. N.B. Nicholas Ware, a prominent Georgia businessman and politician, built his mansion on the outskirts of Augusta in 1818. The cost of construction – over $40,000 – was outrageous for the time period, leading to the saying "Ware's Folly." Today the home is occupied by the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art.
